Tomato sasive, also known as tomato hasi, is a delicious and speedy dish that combines the sharpness of mustard, the richness of yogurt, and the tang of ripe tomatoes.
Tomato Hasi
1 cup diced fresh tomato or cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup yogurt
1 Tbsp + 1/2tsp black mustard seeds
3 byadagi chillies
2Tbsp fresh coconut
Curry leaves
Asafetida. A pinch /hing
Salt to taste
Blend together 1Tbsp mustard seeds, chili , coconut and small amount of tomato to a fine paste. Add water if needed. Whisk it with yogurt and keep it aside.
Chop fresh tomato or halve the cherry tomato in half. Add a small amount of oil in a pan, once the pan gets smoky, add remaining 1/2tsp mustard seeds , curry leaves and hing . Turn off the heat once the mustard seeds pop. Add tomatoes and mix thoroughly . Once the pan gets slightly cooler, add the ground paste with yogurt, salt . Mix thoroughly . Serve cold or room temperature.
Add well ripe but firm tomato
Do not cook/ saute the tomato . We want a nice texture.
Allow the pan to cool a bit before adding yogurt so that does not split.
For a vegan option, skip yogurt and add half a can of coconut milk.
